Dairy & milk collection. Food-grade weighing for the dairy supply chain.

Milk-collection centres weigh hundreds of cans across an evening shift; the slip drives both farmer payment and downstream sale to the dairy. Eagle Weigh's dairy stack uses the milk-spec card paired with SS hygienic load cells — food-grade, washable, IP67-sealed.

The story

6 pm at a village dairy.

It's evening at a milk collection centre in the dairy belt of Western UP. Eighteen farmers have queued with their cans — most carrying between 4 and 22 litres. The collection clerk has 90 minutes before the chiller truck arrives. Each farmer's pour is weighed, slip-printed, and entered against the farmer's account. By the next morning, the data needs to be uploaded to the dairy union software so the weekly payment can be processed.

Eagle Weigh's dairy stack solves the four problems this scene contains at the same time: the cell has to be food-grade SS to wash down between cans, the indicator has to print a slip the farmer keeps, the card has to talk to the dairy union software at exactly 9600-baud (the rate the union systems were standardised on), and the whole stack has to run for hours on a battery because village power is unreliable.

Why dairy is its own protocol.

The milk-collection workflow in India is built around a handshake between the collection-centre scale and the dairy union's procurement software. Every union uses serial data exchange at 9600-baud — change that, and the integration breaks. Eagle Weigh's Milk Weighing card is firmware-tuned to that baud rate, with the slip format and account-key shortcuts that dairy clerks expect.

On the hardware side, stainless-steel load cells handle daily wash-down. Aluminium cells (which work fine in retail) corrode within a season in dairy use — we ship SS variants of the 310 and 410 platform series with food-grade hygienic finishing.

Common questions

Dairy FAQ.

Does the indicator talk to my union's software?

If your union's software expects 9600-baud serial with the standard milk-slip format, yes — out of the box. For non-standard formats, our software team can deliver a config in 1–2 days.

What happens when the power goes out mid-shift?

The indicator runs 6–8 hours on its internal battery. The clerk finishes the shift; data uploads when mains returns.

How well does the SS cell hold up to daily wash-down?

The 310 and 410 SS cells are tested at 50 wash-cycles per day. Two-shift dairies run them for 4–5 years before requiring service.

Can the slip carry the farmer's account number?

Yes — the farmer-account is a configurable field, printed on every slip alongside can number, date, time and net weight.

What's the cell-replacement turnaround if one fails?

Pre-paired replacement ships in 1–3 working days from our Samaypur bench. We always carry a calibration buffer.
